Advice

My advice for the future classes is to do all the homework assignments and do complete them. At first I had trouble with the Microsoft office for windows and the Microsoft office for Macs and had to do my homework in the library so I wouldn't loose more homework points. Paying attention in class is very important because then you know what to do for your homework.

Favorite websites

My favorite websites were Lauren's and Claire's. I liked Lauren's website because its design looks very professional. I really liked her videos and pictures and it surprised me that she even had a short bio for every player in the team.
My other favorite websites was Claire's because she showed great pictures of all the places where she has been and I wish I could go to all of them. I also liked her design and it kept me interested.

Website

Please visit my website http://www.cs.trinity.edu/~dibarra/

I used Kompozer to do my website. At first I had no idea what to do what topic to choose and how to make it a good website. I chose my topic "Honduras" so the class could know a little bit more of it and the cities which attract for tourism. Making the site was easier than I thought but designing it was harder. I had trouble getting the images and finding the best ones that reflected the beauty of each of the cities I chose. After that the difficult part was putting everything together and the design part but with a little patience I could finally finish it. I really hope you enjoy my website and get to know a little more of Honduras because I am very proud of my "Islas de la Bahia" section. If I would change anything would be the title size of the pages because I dont know why they didn't change when I changed them with the program.
I can now show everyone I know how websites are done and how I created and published my very on website!

Larry Hechler blog

Last class Larry Hechler from ITS came and talked to us about a lot of things we should know about computers. I did not know that Dell was the only brand of computers that covered for everything if you have the Dell complete cure plan. I also learned that if you have to let the battery drain from your computer before charging it because it will get used to working only for a few minutes. I also learned that you have to have a back up of your files. He told us awful stories of how students have lost very important papers and I really do not want that to happened to me. We also got to see whats inside a laptop and inside a CPU. I had already seen what is inside of a CPU but it was my first time seeing what was inside a laptop. It was a great experience for me and now I even know what the proper way to clean my computer is!

Photos that lie

I chose this picture because I wanted to edit one of my friends pictures. This picture was taken by Ricardo Rivera, a Honduran photographer. First I lowered the brightness of the photo and added more contrast to the picture. After that I changed the hue and saturation moving them up and down until I got the color I wanted. Then, I changed the color of her skin tone giving her a more tan skin color. Using the paint brush tool I painted over her earring making it disappear and then chose a picture of a diamond earring from Google and using the magneto lasso tool I moved it to where her previous earring was. Later, I used the smart brush tool and chose the lime time tool to make eyes green. In the arrangements  panel I was able to change the shade of green and make it to a more credible green color. With all these touch ups I was happy with my new edited picture of my friend. The manipulation is harmful because I am portraying to other people a wrong image of my friend. This picture relates to my article because my article talks about how manipulating photos gives a wrong image of something.

The article I read was called "Whats in a picture" and was about manipulating images, what they are and their effects. There was a quote in the article that really caught my attention. This was the answer to why is it wrong to manipulate an image: "If you misrepresent your data, you are deceiving your colleagues, who expect and assume basic honesty—that is, that
each image you present is an accurate representation of what you actually observed." This really interested me because this is the reason why every woman believes what they see on magazines because we are used to taking a picture and just uploading to our computer not making changes to ourselves. This is why magazines have everyone fooled because people are expecting to see how their favorite actor or actress looks and what can they do to look like her.

Now a lot of companies are doing campaigns to show the world how this images are altered and why we should believe everything we see on the magazines or internet.

Special Education Powerpoint

My power point presentation was about Special Education. I decided to use this topic because I am planning on majoring in Psychology or Education so this was a way of combing both of them. I used a great choice of slide theme that I really liked and pictures that showed what special education really is. I learned how to insert a youtube video on to my presentation. The two powerpoint presentations I liked the best were the Event Planning and the Underwater Photography. I used to plan a lot of events during my senior year in high school and when I saw her presentation I remember all those times and she showed I professional way of doing it. She also had good slides, pictures, and explained well her topic. I liked the Underwater Photography presentation because I did not even know you could do that! I was amazed of what fashion magazines can do. Her presentation showed great pictures of it and she really had my attention for the whole time she was explaining. I love to take pictures and underwater photography is really a challenge for any kind of photographer even the best ones.

Chris Nolan

Chris Nolan, the Assistant Librarian, came to talk to us about researching on the internet. He taught us different techniques. For example how to search only for .gov or .org websites and leave out the .com. I will certainly put into practice what I learned from his presentation.

Power point

The five worst things a power point can have are bad color schemes, a lot of bullet points, a lot of information on the slides, bad font size and terrible pictures. All of these things make a horrible presentation but if these things are avoid an excellent powerpoint can happen.
The best reason for people to use powerpoint is to have a visual aid during their presentation and help the listeners have an image of whats being spoken.

CLT

Today in class we visited the AT&T Center for Learning and Technology. It is located in the very first floor of the library and it has 14 mac computers and 12 dell computers. Students here can get help in homework that involves media. For example, making a video or converting videos into DVDs. In here there is also a video conference room in where there are three big televisions and people can have conferences over video. After the tour we got to scan our worksheet into the computer. Now I know where I can go if I need help with media projects.

Revised blog for september 22- Copyright

Tuesday in class Mr. Jason Hardin gave a presentation about Copyrights and how they work and the consequences for violating them and even showed us how to copyright our own documents. I was very impressed with a lot of things I learned during his presentation. I thought CopyRights where a new thing from our generation but realy it goes back to 1790 when the first copyright law was passed. Now it is a very famous law and now a copyright work can be protected until 70 years after the death of the author.

We also learned how we as Trinity students should not download or illegally share files in our computers because they can easily be detected by the people who inforce the law and we may be fined.

My personal opinion on this is that back in Honduras I could easily use Limeware to dowload free music without having to pay it and it is something everbody does, but here in the United States I don’t think about downloading things into my computer because here you do get fined and it is a whole legal mess. I do understand why the artist copyright their songs but I really don’t understand why are there so huge fines if you break the law.

Pictures that lie

I chose the Tv Guide cover of Oprah because of all the manipulated pictures I saw this one was the picture that impressed me the most. The picture is Oprah's face with the body of actress Ann-Margaret. The magazine did not ask the permission of neither of them and neither of them knew this was going to happen. Ann-Margaret's fashion designer was the one to figure it all out when he recognized the dress Oprah is "wearing." I think this picture is harmful because first of all they did not have their permission to do it and second of all having my face cut out to be put in a different body would be hurtful because they did not consider the rest of my body to be good enough for the cover and third of all what an ungrateful surprise both of them received when they saw this magazine cover.

The video I chose about image manipulation is a video from a Dove campaign for girls against the wrong image girls and women have about the models they see on magazines. Many girls and women try to be like the models and famous actresses they see on magazines and many girls become obsess with this perfect image that they see. Many girls and women end up having surgeries to get this image or many end up having eating disorders because they try so hard to get the perfect body of the perfect women on the magazine when in real life that image is manipulated.

Excel

Excel for me has been a difficult experience. When you practice and understand how to do the stuff they ask you to excel is understandable and easy to manage, but Excel is very different for Windows than it is for Mac. Since I am using a Mac computer it is very difficult for me to find where things are located and how to do the stuff they ask me to do.  Excel for Mac also has different names for the things like for example "Conditional Formatting" in Mac is different than the Conditional formatting in Windows. So these problems are making my experience with excel a hard one because I am trying my best to learn how to do the things with my Mac.

Before this course I had no idea how to use excel and the millions of things you can do with excel. I am very exciting to continue learning and I hope I can be able to master Excel for Mac.

Mystery Spot

I choose this photo because I walk daily by this building. The location of this photo is a place where all students go everyday for about three times per day.  I used PICNIK to change the color of the photo, put a frame around and add some stickers to it.

Joe Hatch tips

Before Joe Hatch came to talk to us I didn't have an idea of how many viruses and spywares existed. I did not know you have a history in your computer that never erases.  The lecture was really interesting because I learned how you can prevent all things from happening even preventing someone from hacking your bank account. I was so impressed that when I got to my dorm the first thing I did was download CCleaner.com.  Now that I know how dangerous is not having your computer protected I will spread the word to download CCleaner.

My name is Daniela Ibarra and I am from Tegucigalpa, Honduras.  I was born on November 29, 1991 in Mexico City. I have lived in Tegucigalpa since I was three years old. I have one little sister and one little brother. In my free time I like to paint, take pictures, and play soccer.  One fact about me is that I am allergic to cold.
